Cirium’s VP Sales – APAC, Rahul Oberai presented at the China Civil Aviation Development Forum (CCADF) and spoke about how intelligent aviation and the use of data improves the traveler experience.
Last week my team and I attended the China Civil Aviation Development Forum (CCADF), a forum hosted by the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) that gathers global aviation leaders to share ideas about industry developments in China. I was both honored and pleased to present to over 500 delegates including senior government officials, and executives from airports, airlines, OEMs, MROs and technology providers.
In his opening remark, President of ICAO Mr. Olumuyiwa Benard Aliu mentioned that the aviation industry contributed 2.7 trillion towards Global GDP. This number is growing with the increased demand for air travel and better connections, enabled by more advanced technology. However, this demand inevitably puts a strain on the existing infrastructure; therefore, we will need a larger workforce to manage this growth. The answer to these challenges will be in our ability to use technology to enable automation.
According to Mr Feng Zhenglin, Administrator of CAAC, two key areas for the use of technology and data are safety and customer experience. The industry would need to collaborate and leverage on big data, IOT, AI and cloud computing. To improve safety, we need to collaborate on building data sharing platforms to enable best practice sharing and better air traffic management.
Mr Feng mentioned a few applications that can be used to enhance the traveler experience, such as “intelligent boarding”, “personalized services”, “paperless processes” & better use of mobile tech for sales and distribution.
At Cirium, we believe that travelers are at the heart of the industry, hence I presented to the forum on how intelligent aviation can enhance the traveler experience, with effective data sharing that enables timely alerts of any changes every step of the way in a customer journey. Technology now allows for predictive and proactive services that greatly enhance operational efficiencies during regular passenger journeys, and especially at times of disruptions, ultimately improving the traveler experience.
